Claire Flansburg, Ph.D.
Dr. Flansburg is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides assessment and therapy services for children, adolescents, young adults and couples. Dr. Flansburg has expertise in the assessment of ADHD and learning difficulties in children and adolescents (ages 6 and older). She provides therapy for individuals of all ages struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, parenting and interpersonal difficulties. She works with couples in all stages of relationships to improve communication and increase relationship satisfaction.
Dr. Flansburg utilizes evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy and mindfulness, to help individuals and families achieve higher levels of functioning. She develops a treatment plan tailored to the needs of each individual, family or couple.
Education and Experience
Dr. Flansburg earned her B.A in Psychology from the University of Virginia. She obtained her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver where she received extensive training in evidence-based treatment and assessment. Dr. Flansburg completed a pre-doctoral internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School with a focus on pediatric psychology at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
Throughout her professional training Dr. Flansburg has worked with individuals experiencing social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. She has experience working with children, adolescents and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Flansburg's predoctoral experience included leading treatment groups for youth exposed to abuse and neglect, parents of children with behavioral challenges and couples experiencing relationship difficulties. She completed training in the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program, an evidence-based approach to guiding couples through a series of skills and tools to work towards improved relationship quality and satisfaction. Dr. Flansburg also participated in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities & Related Disorders program, an interdisciplinary training program dedicated to improving the care of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Dr. Flansburg joined Westhampton Family Psychologists in 2015. She lives in Richmond with her husband and two children.
