Sarah Patterson is a current M.Ed candidate who is developing her counseling identity and skills under the supervision of Allison White Twente, Ph.D. Sarah works with young children and their families from a person-centered, experiential lens. She has a particular interest in utilizing play-based techniques with children coping with grief, loss, and trauma.

Sarah has a passion for strengthening children’s support networks and working with children and families of all backgrounds and identities. She strives to become a certified play therapist post-LPC licensure to not only work with individual children, but to work in the Child-Parent Relationship Therapy field.

education & experience

Sarah is working on her Master of Education through the Counselor Education program at VCU, which she is expected to complete in August 2023. She has gained valuable experience working with youth through classroom educator roles and volunteer positions in the Richmond community. Her career goals are driven by her long-time dedication to providing safe and affirming spaces for children to grow and heal.

A born and raised Richmonder, Sarah is proud to be serving RVA’s children and families as she continues her education. During her down time, she enjoys searching for the best mac and cheese in the city, teaching herself photography and playing tug of war with her rescue pup, Duncan.
